Posted in New Media on February 26, 2008 by eason

In my weekends, I would like to invite my friends come to my house when everybody has free time, most of them study the same undergraduate courses with me, we always talk about the funny things and some serious topics when we were drinking the alcohol, about media knowledge, it is definitely in our topics.

Usually, people always talk about “new media”, they used this words “new media” extend the conversation to some other hot topics, such as business environment, marketing strategy, and so on. However, what is the “new media”? what is the “old media”

Following sources from websites:

“New media” is the marriage of mediated communications technologies with digital computers, such as Web sites, computer applications, video games, interactive multimedia, chat interfaces, televised sporting events (Olympic opening, Superbowl halftime shows), cell phone interfaces, hypertext novels, digital video, blogs, interactive mapping, training simulations, virtual reality, museum kiosks, multimedia presentations, e-cards, and more.

“Old media” are, for example, typewriters, vinyl record albums and eight-track magnetic tapes. These media involve analog processes – ones which directly sample a continuous recording onto a physical medium, as opposed to new media which sample media as a numerical representation in binary code.

Public relations (PR) is the management of internal and external communication of an organization to create and maintain a positive image. The Random House Unabridged Dictionary says public relations is the art, technique, or profession of promoting goodwill between an organization or an individual and the public, employees, customers, etc. (Sources searched in Wiki)

In my opinion, Public relation is a kind of way or tool to support organsization to creat a favorable image to customers. PR official always use the PR methods and spend their time to build a dependably relationship between their company and customers. Normally, in each companies, there are relatively staffs in charge of Public Relation, in many of organsizations, Public Relation is a special department direct in charged by top manager in the company. PR team become more and more improtant than before, because of the compete in the modern business environment.
